hello there,
I’ve have a problem with selecting vertices. I am building a stage with buildings and once in a while i want to copy some objects like a wall or so. this causes no problem yet. When i’m ready to move this copied wall and place it on top of an other wall theres still no problem. Once i select linked vertices with l all the vertices [including the non- selected] move along!
Does anyone knows an answer for this? does this sounds familair?
i cant seem to figger it out…
Maybe its just a little thing…?
Proportion edit must be on(this moves all nearby verticies in proportion to which setting you use). In edit mode, press O.
Hi Powermac. It’s hard to tell exactly what you’re doing, but I’m guessing that you’re creating a linked duplicate of your objects. For example:
- Create a cube in object mode.
- Select the cube and press Alt-D (or Object menu -> Duplicate Linked) to make a copy.
- Select the new cube and move it where you want it.
- With the new cube still selected, TAB-Key to enter edit mode.
- Select some vertices and move them where you want them. Similar vertices on the original cube you copied from are also moving.
Is this what you’re talking about? The solution is to duplicate the cube with Shift-D (Object menu -> Duplicate) instead of Alt-D (Object menu -> Duplicate Linked).
When you create a linked object, it shares all mesh, material and texture data (and pretty much any other data) of the original object. If you want to stop a linked object from sharing data with other linked objects:
- Select the object in object mode and press the U-Key.
- A menu will pop up with the selections:
Object
Object & ObData
Object & ObData & Materials + Tex
Materials + Tex - Select which kinds of info you want to be unique (not linked) for this object. Selecting the third option will make the object completely unique with no shared data.
If this is not what you’re talking about, could you give us a step-by-step walk-through so we can better understand what is happening?

Good call. I didn’t think about that. In fact, he/she might have accidentally hit the O-Key when trying for the L-Key.

First of all i am a He…
and second… thanks for all the help guys![?]
I think i must have hit the o key cause after i tried all the answers
it works again !! i’m a happy building, copying and moving man again!!!
I saw there’s a difference between copying linked objects and non linked objects. As a newbie i didn’t got that at first.
Sorry for the late answer but i think its the time difference!!!

It also quit difficult for me to formulate in another language
especially when youre talking about a [for me] difficult program like blender
Step by step im getting to know it and patience is a good case…
‘Oefening baart kunst’ they say in holland!!!

Welcome to using Blender, Powermac, from a fellow (and I do mean “fellow” ) Mac user.
