Problem with simple boolean operation

I am wondering if this a bug or if the normals are incorrect or what’s the matter with the attached file. I am using two cubes and a boolean intersect operation (blender 2.66); I expected to have two holes cut in the object… but only one is cut, the other is like a union.

Any hints are much appreciated

Select all the faces and use Ctrl+N to recalculate their face normals

I thought the relevant normals were ok since they were long enough to stick out at the other side of the object… silly me. Thanks for the hint and sorry for this whole post.
