problem with subsurf crease effect ?

i tried to apply an array to an object with subsurf and not edgesplit
and with weight set at 1.0 but i still get a rounded edge

anyway around this ?

see pic

thanks

Shift E creases the selected edge in a subsurfed mesh

yes except it does not look it is working
there is still a rounded edge in between see picture!

it’s like the crease is not working on this!

thanks

Tough to tell without a blend

here is the model

i applied the crease on either ends and still having some space in between and the joint seems to be a little rounded

zzcube1.blend (249 KB)

ok for the space i found that one bottom left side was too far left
so this is corrected !

but still having some roundeness at the joint !

i tried to push the array up in first position
but this did not chane it !

Thanks

So why aren’t you using edge split for this?

well i tried it and it does not work!

so ther must be a way to get the 2 sides to connect like a normal mesh!

thanks

  • The x-lengths of your two pieces are not exactly the same (eyeballing it is not good enough for this sort of this; use snapping or scaling to make sure they match exactly). With a relative offset the longer one will join OK but the shorter one will have a gap.
  • You have a small lip (an extra edge that becomes an internal edge with the array) at the outer end.
  • You need the array before the subsurf, with merge turned on. Reduce the merge distance by at least a factor of 20 from the default though, since you have some very closely spaced edgeloops.

Best wishes,
Matthew
