Problems Repositioning the Origin: PLEASE HELP!

Hey everyone, pretty new to Blender. I’m having trouble repositioning the origin. You can see my original mesh in the file named “before”.
Then after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+C > Origin to 3D Cursor, I end up with what you see in “after”.
Can someone please tell me how to correct this?

The reason is quite simple. As you don’t use a mirror object for you mirror modifier, the mesh is mirrored at its origin. So if you reposition the origin you also reposition the mirror axis.

Actually, I don’t know, why you want to reposition the origin in this case. Why do you want to put it outside the body?Anyway, you could fix this by adding an empty at the centre of the body and using it as mirror object.

I think I might be able to tell you what the problem appears to be.

When you apply a mirror modifier to an object, it will always use your model’s origin as mirror point. I assume that you set up your mirror with the original origin location. So now your mirror modifier is behaving oddly.
The easiest way to fix this would be to go into edit mode (not object mode), select your entire mesh, and move it so that the edge of your mesh (that would touch the mirror) is alligned with your new origin.
