Problems with hair clumping in Geo Nodes

I have successfully converted hair cards to a particle hair system and then converted that particle hair to curves so I can work with the hair in geometry nodes.

Now to the problem - When I add a clump modifier and set my desired guide distance the hair clumps but it also glues the tips of some of the hair clumps together. I can avoid this by setting a really low guide distance, but then I of course don’t really get any clumps. See screenshot for examples.

I can also replicate the issue with just creating new hair on the same mesh.
Am I doing something wrong and if so what? I’m fairly new to blender so I’m not super experienced.

I’m about to start pulling my actual hair out trying to figure this out so any help would be greatly appreciated

A couple of things…
You have the Factor cranked to one…
You haven’t set Keep length…
( If you don’t want it to preserve length lower the Factor, If you want Factor as one, then set preserve length). Either of those ways should un-glue the tips…
First way… adjust Factor ( notice that it will look as if the clump has been cut off…

Second way… Nice random lengths

Thank you for taking the time to try and help me! Unfortunately neither of those things work for solving my issue. They both “unglue” the edges but with the factor I’d have to turn it all the way down to get rid of the problem, but then I wouldn’t get any clumping.

The preserve length option unglues the tips of all small clumps but it does not solve the issue as the big problem clumping still happens.

My first screenshot was maybe not very clear in showing the actual issue so I’ve included another one below of a different haircut. As you can see the hair clumps nicely, especially in the back there is almost no issues, but some clumps on the sides just decide to get glued to the hairs on the opposite side of the mesh.

(Just tried separating the hair into two parts - Left and Right and the problem is gone, however I’d prefer to work with it in one piece.)

The only thing I could do from here is take a look at the Blend file…if you wish to share it…

You are new so it is probably too large (?)( <5mb) to upload, so you would have to use a public host like Google or Mediafire, etc.

BTW, in the meantime, have you finished the New User Tutorial? There should be a PM about it in your messages from the Bot…( It’s the first one you get after signup)

I’d appreciate that very much! Here is a google drive link to the blend file: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jOcAQqNFynPZ_NHpG8USgc2gZw6NyQEE/view?usp=sharing

I will check out the New User Tutorial as well, thank you!

Splitting or by vertex groups might be the way to go, I believe it is because the meah is so small that you don’t have much room to pick settings, like you would if it were 2x the size, for instance…

To stop the L-side from Clumping with the R-side I used these settings…
If you play around with it some more there is a point where the whole thing makes on clump on the bottom…and it is just a very small distance …
Of course, I don’t know how you want it to clump or what the end hair you want, looks like.

Ok thank you, I will continue troubleshooting on my own to see if I can figure it out, otherwise I’ll have to just separate it into different parts.

This was shown in another thread, so I watched it, and yes, at around 5.0 into it, he recommends using a density node group after spitting the hair with a Left and Right, just as you predicted…

Happy Blending!

Thanks I’ll check it out!
