Problems with normals

I am working on a model of a wooden log with a “spiked” end. I create a cone and and extruded the end. At the tip of the log there is a “hard line” illustatrated on the attached image.

I did the usual remove doubles and flip normals commands. but the hard line is still there. Is there an editing technique that i have overlooked?

I ran into the same problem myself about a month ago. To fix this, you’re going to want to go to the Editing Tab (F9), the Mesh panel, and press the No V. Normal Flip button.
