Problems with textures and lights

I’m having some trouble with lights and textures in the bge. Some objects that are textured are affected by light and some are not. The ones that are not textured properly, ie not given a texture and material and just have a image assigned to them works just fine (the bookcase in the picture). But the ones that have a texture are just “ignored” by the light (the books in the picture). I can’t for the life of me figure out what’s wrong, so any help would be appreciated.
I run blender 2.53 and the game is in multitexture mode.

I think you have to check the light button in the texture face panel in the object’s edit section.
