this is a model I did for my company - I will use it as a dummy to test it in different light situations and angles - and if everything looks good to us, we will forward the result to our photographer as a reference image - that’s the plan
I hope you like it … I know, it’s just a plastic box
I worked on the lighting and am now trying to make the LEDs glow.
I’d like to do this 100% in Blender but neither the halo settings nor the glow plugin in the sequence editor really give me satisfying results (which is not the tools’ fault, I think :))
Does anybody know a good tutorial for glow effects?
You can play around with multiple things to get the effect you want try a combination of:
1- turning emit on for the leds
2- use a spherical normal mapped blend to influence color and emit on LEDs
3- add some lights that illuminate the objects arround the LED slightly - sphere point lights will do.
4- glow plugin
5- post process (I know you wanna do this in blender 100%, but you could always use the sequence editor to composite- for instance, render the leds only wiith alpha, blur the render and layer it over the original)
6- you could experiment with the radiosity options with the leds as emiters
7- you could try yaf.
Hmmm… nice product model. Would have liked to see you use Blender tools/utilities to do the glow… (for selfish reasons, so I could see the techniques) for my own use. The only crit I have is the angle of the camera, its a bit too much it should be more face-on (you know… closer to looking directly down).
white light?? never seen white leds on anything but i guess they do exist and someone might use them. also noticed the lettering is quite odd. might wanna make power all caps too to consolidate everything. angle still too extreme. put a slight plastic bump to this sucks as well.
…hmm, this piece of hardware already exists and this is the way it looks (and yes, the material is bumpy - and the lettering is inconsistent for some reason our product managers don’t tell me, I was wondering about this, too…).
As I mentioned before, I use this model to collect ideas for the final image that is taken by a photographer. I will test it in different angles, I promise
tmtechie: I’ve seen white LED’s how about on your nokia 3110, 8310 etc? I love the look of white LED’s but I hear they take more elec and are less durable than standard red/green LED’s
Yes, you are right - I think the real device uses green LEDs but we are displaying white LEDs in most of the press photos… so I chose white for this, too.
