Project Mango kick-off

Project Mango is going to happen for real!

http://mango.blender.org/

It’s good to see it starting but I have to say what happened to the really nice design of the project blogs?

Elephants Dream, BBB, and Sintel had really well designed sites.

Congrats to Jeremy Davidson and Sebastian Koenig! You guys are indeed an important part of this team. just can’t wait to start the donation drive… Yeah!

+1 about the website look. Hmmm early days still

In Ton’s own words, the blog was “Slapped together”. The design is sure to change later.

Anyone else notice that Campbell isn´t part of the dev roster?

This is a great start to the month of October. Well done to the team and look forward to Mango in big form when it is released!

Perhaps he’ll be on general bug fixing and things of that nature during production.

After all it’ll last a couple of months and things not relating to the visual effects side will crop up and need to be dealt with.

Exciting to see the Vfx tools all coming together in Blender.
Been waiting for Mango for awhile… Been loving using Tomato and cycles.
I was wondering what specific things are going to be fixed with the work on the dependence graph?
Hmm looks like this is the answer… http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-240/dependency-graph/
I think that it will allow animation of many characters, etc…

I’ve just read over the ‘about’ section and now I’m really excited about the kick-off of Mango. The developer sprint, and the features which will get attention.

Hopefully the DVD’s will be up for pre-ordering in the next few weeks!

Nice! But i would close the site till it gets a redesign, it is so demotivating!

id join. but i specialize in music

oh well im busy anyways

Congrats to our very own MichaelW for making the team! I’d put money on it that he will stay on as a modeler as well

will project mango use motion capture for realistic character movement ?
For Mango Jeremy Davidson will be the main character rigger and help out designing the action scenes. Jeremy will do a good job on animating robots but if there is computer generated human in movie it will be a challenge(time wise) .
still to early lets see what other information we get in the coming months.

Awesome, MichaelW is part of Project Mango now as Concept Artist and Andy back again! Great news indeed.

Aww yeah! Keir is on the team
Also good to see that instead of people who are very ‘all-round’ (like in previous projects) this team seems to be a bit more specialized.
I think quality wise that’s a very good thing. maybe not so good for last minute problems, but that’s up to planning

I’m Very excited about this project!

I wonder if the three month development sprint will go ahead still, before the project starts.

It would be really nice to have a few developers polish Blender and ease some of the clunky work flows, and perhaps add a few things like true camera projection and a way to set quality settings for the compositor, like on-the-fly proxy rendering (25%/ 50%/ 75%) etcetera.

Google must be putting in big money into Mango because there is already like 10 people involved and the artist and developer positions are yet to be assigned.

According to timeline at mango.blender.org it will be a coder sprint/marathon in january.
