Project "Suzy with a Z"

Hi, all! In this post I’ll be sharing wips, behind the scenes and all sort of stuff of the work I’m doing for my short film “Suzy with a Z” (might not be the final title).

I’ll start with some wireframes of the current model:

Full body (clothed)

Hand close-up

Face (with hair)

Let me know if you want to know or see more stuff or some specific details on the process of making a short film.

Is the short film “Suzy with a Z” going to be about the history of animation?! :astonished:

No, not really. It’s more of a crossing between The Matrix and Toy Story, in a sense? I’ll work on a tagline+synopsis soon in order to talk about it without spoiling the story, heh.

Sounds interesting, can’t wait to see the final product

I just did some tweaks about everywhere in the model and basically finished the rig properly now (it might still need some weight painting adjustments on the face, but minimal).

It’s incredible what lighting can make to a model to make it look good. Never underestimate lighting, folks.

Some basic emotions test. Trying to push the facial rig in some ways. I think it’s ready for animating shots. I can polish some details later on, but this is good as is for now.

Muchas gracias por todos los elogios, je

Estoy particularmente orgulloso del trabajo de rigging ya que no usé shape keys todavía (seguramente más adelante sí, para algunas formas de la boca, las pestañas, y detalles así).

Thank you so much for all the compliments, haha

I’m particularly proud of the rigging work since I haven’t used shape keys yet (I probably will later on, for some of the mouth shapes, eyelashes, and details like that).

Since it came up on Twitter, here’s a look at Suzy’s knee rig:

…there’s literally 0 shapekeys, drivers, or helper bones here in Suzy. Not even the band-aid has shapekeys. Just good old bone placement and proper topology.

Sharing the vertex group weights, just in case it helps someone.
