I finally moving to 2.8 and this is my first public project which i would like to share with you…

Idea is create custom trophy truck/buggy + some deeper overlap**?>!**

I would like to try use only FOSS during the production and use Blender as much as possible for all parts of production…

Because I really love working on tires - I’m starting with tires…

Ahoj,
I have a small update on tire tread…
I split tread to three layers, which I’ll put together later…

Time for update

I put together all three layer of tread, duplicate and rotate first segment and then i bend tread to right position…
And now finally I’m ready for spin!
And sidebar:slight_smile:

I just create a base mesh for tire with proper dimensions, that would help me better navigate final mesh…
I need to rework sidebar little bit, because I did several mistakes -Lost roughly 5-6 hours of work - goddammit!

Anyway I spend a lot of time researching of TR tech… So i hope tire should be on good way right now…

I finally rework base of sidebar… That was tough, because on my references pictures is different size of tire that I working on.
Anyway I can start with details, but right now I need some recreation and British Motor Museum sounds like a good idea!

lot’s of work and nice model
but at what cost in verts count!

tire will be like 250 Kverts for one tire
time at least 4 so that is gone be like 1 million verts !

may be try to make a UV map out of it should give less verts

Yes a lot of verts…
But not so much - complete tire have right now 140k verts…
This tire is really huge (1m diagonal in real scale) and I need all of this details, because all of this details should be visible and normal maps can not satisfy my expectation for this project:)
There is specific reason for that…

I hope, later on this I´ll create also baked lowpoly-realtime version suitable for sketchfab etc…

The truth is tire tread is slightly wider than it should be:)
Part of the side bar will be covered by rim, that also help to make tread “optical” wider.

Reference size of tire is 39X13.50R17

For that propose i created base mesh in correct size

But there should be some small correction after I´ll finish tire and rim

I hate making tires :smiley: but yours are looking fantastic so far.

Yes, I´ll will share some topo after tire will be done. Right now is everything heavily in progress I need to adjust topo regarding to proper smoothing etc…

update of sidebar,
I´m working on logos… You probably tell my why I don´t use normal map or bump…
I don´t wanna exclude normal maps from this project, but in this case -vehicle should be main point and wheels make a car, and i trust to power of geometry…
I do a several test on older models and i can say, nothing looks better then geometry in 8K+ resolution…
Anyway I can use some form of displacement, but that should be pretty heavy in final render, even with adapt…

I don’t have time, but I’m still working on it…

I’m almost done with bottom part of sidebar, properly set normals, cleanup topology for better smoothing, adding some new detail…
Yes, maybe I should put little bit more polygons to ‘‘O’’ letter…
Next time I would like to render final geometry…

It is blurry because of DOF, and reason for that is - tread is still not final;) I need set normal orientation… Then i will make a new renders of whole tire…
Side bar have something around 66k verts…
And complete tire should have something around 190k verts…
