[propably simple] Weird stuff happening with bones

Hi,

this is my first try at bones. I’m trying to make a robot that can move it’s arms and bend forwards and backwards. It’s right arm is working fine, but moving the left arm makes it do weird things… Can anyone tell me what’s going on?

Thanks in advance, Neele

Some notes to consider when rigging:

  1. make sure your normal are pointing in the same direction, so ctrl+n in edit mode.
  2. Your problem is skinning, when you parent your mesh to your armature something went wrong and the body and some other part of your mesh got a lot more weight than they should.
  3. Name properly your bones it saves you a lot time and effort. In Blender we have this convention bone on right are named let’s say leg.R or leg.r. Blender have many tools that will make your life easy.
4.When you add a armature for your better visibility, turn x-ray on.

I did edit it since there is not a lot work to fix it. Here is the Blend file http://www.pasteall.org/blend/41970
