Proper Modeling Technique?

Although there isn’t a “proper” way to model, what is a good way to model objects? Right now, I use subsurf a lot, and cut loops accordingly to shape out my objects. These usually turn out pretty good, but is there a better way to model? I used to only use bezier curves and mesh objects until my discovery of the subsurf tool, but, now, I seem to only use subsurf and cut loop combo. And if this method is what most people/good modellers use, if you can list any tips/tutorials, I’d appreciate that too. Thanks in advance.

Hmm, I guess Modron’s post got knocked off the front page already. Check out the modeling thread he started.

Wowza. Awesome. So I guess I’m pretty right on track.
