proportional vertex editing

ok, im modeling a head right now, its looking pretty good, but my main problem is that the best to shape the head is to use the pve, when i turn it on, sometimes it doesnt even work, sometimes it works, and other times, it moves almost every vertex when i try to move a single vertex, is there a way to make the “grab area” smaller? or do i need to do the work of sculpting the scalp by turning off pve and just doing it by 1 vertex at a time? :o

While in pve and after you grab a vertex, hit the plus or minus sign on your num pad.

And if you want not to affect some vertices, hide them (H).
