By that I mean free textures, mapping aids etc. Like the ones attached. These are used while UV mapping to help check for distortion. The first post is an image to show these in use on a low/medium poly car model.
Here are the first three files. They aren’t so hard to make but if you want to check your UV mapping they will be a big help.
Here are two more maps to help check for accidental back-to-front mapping. Putting text and numbers on is a more tedious process and these took a while to make.
Here’s an illustration of the colourband one in use checking the mapping on a car.
I hope these are useful to somebody else, I use them myself any time I am mapping anything but the simplest meshes. They really help. So if anyone else has found or made helpful resources, I hope this thread has a chance of becoming a place to share them.
Um… you know that Blender can generate a texture like this right from within the UV/Image Editor, right?
