So I recently found out a prop and an asset were different things. Sounds stupid to some I guess but i wondered what props might be in a FPS game?
I do not regularity play FPS games so I am not sure what a character might interact with in a FPS game. Any suggestions would be super helpful but needs to be more exciting than a table or chair! I need to get modeling this ASAP and want it to be kinda badass looking AAA quality prop asset.
Does a apache helicopter count as a prop asset providng the player can interact with it.???
prop is a type of asset.
assets also include models, sounds, textures, lights, scripts, maps, etc.
like in a movie set, props are objects placed in the scene to enhance the visuals. characters on the other hand are usually not refered to as props.
i personally refer to scripted, interact-able objects as “game objects”.
vehicles are a game object asset which extends the players abilities. again, generally not called props.
EDIT:
props could also refer to animated objects in cutscenes. i suppose ai objects could be called props, but more often just called AI or bots.
