PRS Electric Guitar

This is my first non-tutorial piece that I’m doing from scratch, except for some 3D text stuff for graphic design stuff I do from time to time.

It’s just the basic shapes for the most part. I’ve added the bridge (which took several hours to model) and the pickups, but that’s about it so far.

And a clay render of the bridge and pickups…

Any feedback will be appreciated!

Hi there, great model! I been wanting to model a guitar too. I am not a professional, however, in my opinion, the impression that the guitar gave me is melting. Looking forward to see more details

The model looks good!

  • Especially the bridge and the pickups.

I’m not sure if you are using Blender Render or Cycles Render engine.
However, you should try looking up HDRI lighting (If you don’t know what it is already). I use it in almost every scene I render.
It adds nice, realistic reflections and it’s quite easy to use. You can also use, for instance, an area lamp - in addition to the HDRI backgorund - to highlight a part or ‘angle’ of your model.

We could help if you tell us why the bridge took you several hours. That would have taken me about 3 minutes. You must be doing something extremely inefficient. There may be some guitar building videos you could reference to see how they built theirs.

Hey! Thanks for the compliments! I do know about HDR, and I have messed around with it a bit before, but like I said, this is my first non-tutorial work, and I definitely plan on going that route… Just want to get the modeling done first. I’m learning a lot as I progress. Will post some updates soon… Currently working on the neck detail.

Thanks for the offer! I think the real reason it took me forever is that I kept over thinking it and as a result, started over several times. The final go at it took about 20 minutes. And I really wanted to get it as close to the real thing as possible, as it’s one of the parts where the details really add a lot to the overall look of the whole model.

However… I feel like I cheated a bit because it’s actually made up of two objects, the base and the curved top part with the grooves. I have this sneaky suspicion that I will have to revisit it before adding some proper materials. I tried doing it as one piece, but the topology ended up a complete mess every time.

Thanks bud! I’m currently working on the neck detail… Getting all the frets to match the curve of the fretboard is a mission, and slow work, but it’s getting there. Will post some pics when I’m done with it. And then next up is the headstock. And then when that’s done, I want to revisit the body. Maybe even redo it from scratch.
