Okay, my PS2 stopped playing DVD’s and I cleaned the laser and all I get is a loud snapping sound, can someone help?

which model ps2? the tiny one? room for a real hard drive?
… dvd players are like $30… why were you playing dvds on your ps2?
z3r0 d: Our PS2 was one of the best DVD players we’d used for quite a while. (The only better one may be our XBOX 360.) Our other players would skip on certain DVDs, when our PS2 would play them PERFECTLY. (And no, the disks weren’t scratched, we’re very careful about that. ;))

I’m too lazy to go out and make $30. It simply doesn’t play certain dvd’s, it is a mechanical sound, and I’m not getting why it does this on certain ones only. It won’t play music cd’s, doesn’t matter though, I don’t use it for cd’s.
I use my PS2 (the older version) as a DVD player as well, luckily I never runned into a problem with it.

Hm… Took only about 13 minutes to take apart and clean the lens then put back together.
Mine has stopped playing PS1 games…
Still CDs and DVDs though.
