Psuedo futuristic military lab (new object pg2 10/26/04)

heres a wire for the hose clamp w/ subsurf off. Not a very complicated model. The handle part is a little screwy, I guess I’ll fix that up a bit.

started on another model. This is going to be the “operating table” type object that goes underneath the ceiling attachment with the robot arms. So far its just the base and the pivot for the table.

take a good look at the nice, pristine, smooth surface of the base because its not going to stay that way for long  .

modelled a bit more of the table.

I also started adding the bolts the the previous two objects.

A question, should I keep doing these fairly frequent, small-medium sized updates or just wait a couple days and show larger updates?

The table doesn’t look very sturdy. It needs more supports then just in the middle.

And about the updates. I think larger updates are preferable.

thanks for the feedback, I’ll wait to post some larger updates then.

Very nice models, can’t wait to see them textured and put together

hmm, didn’t work on this for a while. not as big an update as I wanted but, oh well.

whoops, just noticed the floating cylinder.

I also rigged the thing. heres a short anim of how it moves right now.

Ah, now I see how it’s supported on both sides. I like it. Can’t think of any crits.

finally, an update. Been really busy with school/college applications but got a few hours to blend over the weekend.

another random miscellaneous background type object.
It’s kind of funny how almost none of this detail will be visible during the anim.

And, of course, once I’m done with all these models, I have to texture them lol.
I think once I’m done with this scene and I have an established “look/feel,” the other scenes should move a bit quicker. My modelling speed is improving too. This model took about 2-2.5 hours as opposed to probably more than twice that for the earlier ones (the cvs face and edge select make my life a lot easier)

i know the updates are slowing down, but once I get to break (and hopefully get accepted to college  ), I’ll have a lot more time.
I might not get to update soon, unfortunately.

I may not have time for blending, but I managed to squeeze in a few simple sketches. Hepefully I’ll get started on these soon (the top left is the one I just modelled).

The construction seems kind of weak, one push and it breaks. Other than that, it looks great. I can’t think of any crits, especially because you said that most of the details won’t be visible in the animation

This stuff is very imaginative and clever. I wouldn’t pay much attention to comments about the structure looking weak. Its pretty clear that in the time period that anyone would be capable of building something like this that new construction materials would alleviate those fears  Anyway, what sort of texturing do you plan on doing for these models? If you already mentioned it and I didn’t read it I apologize for missing it.

Your modeling style is very interesting and I bet X-Warrior is getting nervous now about next year’s F1 Challenge! :open_mouth: Its nice to see artists let their imaginations run wild!

halfgaar:

thanks for the comment. The top parts are actually supposed to connect to the ceiling, so no worries there.

Desoto:

thanks, thats really encouraging.

for texturing I think I’ll go with mostly procedurals with UV mapping for details. I think thats easier than all UV mapping (this is only the first scene), but more control than just procedurals. I’m also leaning towards a worn look, not new and shiny, but not decrepit and rusty either.

didn’t really thing about entering the F1 contest (stiff competition and all). I might try it though, no reason not to  (not like its soon or anything)

hmmm, I think i’ll go back an add more detail to the previous models, they don’t look nearly so nice as they did a couple weeks ago :-?
