Earlier this year I was browsing a mycology forum and I saw someone’s pictures of their novelty mushroom grow inside a gumball machine. I loved the idea, although sadly it is a hard thing to photograph properly, so I started building this scene around the idea of a psychedelic arcade. I started back in May or so, but the project had to be put on hold over the summer and I only just finished it last week. It was so much fun designing all of the stickers and cabinets and set dressing for this shot.
