Purple haze

I’m in the middle of adding more details to this.
Blender + a lot of Gimp.

Crits/suggestions, anyone?

looking very nice so far, can I see a wire though?

Here’s a wire. As you can see, a lot of things were composited/drawn by hand in Gimp.

Very good, yfkar.! I like it a lot, especially like the mood and depth.

Some minor crits:

  • the ground in front of the image looks a bit flat/blurred, maybe you could use a finer texture
  • if you already use heavy postprocessing, you could paint a bit of detail to the area where the grass sprouts
  • the shore looks too straight
  • I think real fire produces yellower light

The best Finnish work I’ve seen so far. How long did it take to make that?

Glad that you liked it.

Thoro: Thanks, nice points, I’ll look into them. Making the light around the flame yellower indeed makes the fire look warmer.

Btw, do you (or anybody else) happen to know a good site with high-resolution textures? My current ground texture is only 256x256 (d’oh) but I haven’t found a bigger one that suits the image.

Maggot: Thanks a lot! The 3d scene itself took quite a few hours (mostly thinking new ideas). Post-processing in Gimp has taken at least 12 hours. Time flies by when you’re drawing small details with a pixel-sized brush.

Some tweaking. Made a sharper texture for the ground.

Absolutely love the atmosphere you have yfkar. Lovely work. Only crit is that the closest tree seams to be in danger of catching fire.

I don’t see Jimi Hendrix anywere.

really great post processing work, fantastic stuff

Great work, yfkar.!

Guess I’ll call it finished now. Thanks everyone!

maniac4hire: True. Actually, some of the leaves have already burnt.

henrymop: I’m sorry but Mr. Hendrix couldn’t make it.

I’m surprised there are any trees left on those Islands! Judging by all the smoke.

When I saw that fire I thought, WOW I want a tutorial on Blender Flames like that! Then I saw the wire and my dreams were shot down in… well flames actually. Oh well, it does look great though, really nice composition and lighting.
