Pursuant to one of my new year's resolutions, be more creative.

Here’s a start, I s’pose. It’s a model based on a desk I own. So, not that creative…

The creative part is the fact that it’s not exact. The pink shelves don’t exist on my desk. Eh, still not all that creative, I s’pose…

Anyway, it’s still a work in progress. The materials are all placeholders. I don’t think the pink shelves’re gonna remain pink.

Applied a few basic materials, then added a couple of things. I’ll do some more on it later on tonight. I have to go get my daughter from school now.

Added a few more things to the scene.

Starting on the guy who’ll be sitting in the chair.

I am surprised nobody has commented yet.
The desk is very good so far. I will watch this with a keen eye…

Another small update. Gave the guy a body, not very detailed because it’s all going to be occluded by his clothes, which are just going to be sweats. I messed with the cloth simulator for a bit. Seems to work great, other than that jump in the first frame, plus his pants a bit farther down than convenient. I can fix the former by starting the cloth sim a few frames early, and I can just pin a few vertexes to keep the pants on.

Yeah, I’m getting ahead of myself. I still need to detail the head and the hands a bit more, get better shoes on the guy, then work on textures and stuff. Essentially, I need to finish this guy and position him in the scene before going forward with anything else. I wish I was better at character modeling. ><

Heh. Well, I figure that folks figured it was neither great nor horrible. That, or I started so many projects and never finished any of 'em. :stuck_out_tongue:

Anyhow, Small update. Didn’t have much time to do a whole lot, just a couple of materials.

just add nudity in the topic name and your bound to get some hits lol.

Nah i know how you feel, until you get a following it will be a case of just keep being persistent and hope it catches someones eye.

very good modelling of the desk btw  very detailed.

I think the following image can qualify as nudity. HERE COME THE THRONGS OF FOLKS TO SEE NAKEDNESS!!! MUAHAHAHAHA!

Eh, I’m not really horribly disappointed with the lack of commentary on it so far. It’s still quite early in the process. There’s certainly nothing “gallery quality” to be excited about just yet. Besides, no one’s posted basic-interface tutorials yet, so it can’t be THAT bad.

Anyway… :stuck_out_tongue:

Didn’t have a whole lot of sit-down time before work, so I didn’t touch the character model. I focused on setting up a few textures, instead. A million points to anyone who can identify the item on the monitor screen.

I keep getting database errors when using the site, particularly when attempting to post something. ><

All right, had a few more minutes before having to split for work. Thought I’d mess around with the particle generator for a bit. Here’s what I got for “hair.” Might be a cautionary tale about using miracle gro for shampoo.

This is all completely unproductive, because he’s going to be wearing over-the-ear headphones and a stocking cap. Because I don’t wanna model his ears, that’s why. :stuck_out_tongue:

Small update. Figured he needed an aquarium.

Quittin’ blender to go to work. Had to remake the aquarium, due to forgetting to save the file before blender crashed. I have no idea what I’m going to put in it just yet.

Threw up some textures on the walls and the floors.

haha yeah its coming on well, though the background at the moment is a little distracting, i have a problem with reds/greens anyway so that is probably why. its looking really good, are you going to continue and model an entire room?

Put a couple of procedural textures on the gun there. haven’t worked on it in a few days. Blame Media Molecule for releasing Little Big Planet 2.

Probably not going to complete the entire room, the area that’s in the scene right now is what I’m likely going to have in the final render. I still have a bunch of work to do on the character. I’m probably going to skip trying to rig him, since the final render’s not going to be much of an animation. Well, he’s not going to be moving, anyway.

I should probably change out the speaker’s color with something a bit more muted, I think…

I’m not really going for “super-high-quality” so much as “crappy project I actually finished.”

haha i know the feeling work is weighing me down this week so i havent had chance to even look at blender yet, as long as its all good practice. i think the more of this sort of thing you do the easier it will become, think no matter how much natural talent you have practice is always good

Okay, daughter’s at school, I don’t have to work for a few days, there’s not a single rational excuse to NOT have progress made on this thing.

Other than a mindless and horrifyingly burning desire to play little big planet 2. I can manage that. I think.

Today’s focus will be on the character, a little bit. I want to get his hat and earphones on, at the very least.

here’s a general idea of where I’m at, plus a close-up render of the eye. I attempted to make a procedural texture, then I got the texture from here:

Anyone got an idea on a “depressing” image I can use for the dude’s shirt?

Small update. Had to do this twice. Someone remind me to save more often. ><

Just got a call from my daughter’s school, I gotta go get her. She puked.

aww, hope your daughter feels better dude.

as for something depressing look up any heavy metal band if your looking for that kind of artwork.

i would say at the moment your character is looking to wide and shallow. if you can try and find a picture of someone the sort of build your trying to replicate. will give you a better idea of how the proportions should be

Messed with the material settings for the skin. Just modeled his eyebrows, I don’t have time enough to educate myself enough to make particle hair look better than horrible. :stuck_out_tongue:

He IS wide and shallow. It’s the result of rushing it, I s’pose. My initial goal was to have this complete by the end of the month. Given the time constraint, I think I’m going to apply the mirror modifiers and start working on getting him posed in the scene now…

Just remembered that he’s not wearing shoes. Blah. Gotta fix that first.
