Quads or triangles

Hello all,

Just a question,

When i’m modelling, should i quads or triangles?
Or doesn’t it matter? And why ?

Thanks in advance, Zlack

On blender, it doesn’t matter that much since Blender can handle Tris very well. There are programs (3D Studio Max) that ONLY have tris. If you are modeling for a game, then your models should be all done in tris to make it run faster.

However, when modeling for general purpose, quads are easier and faster to work with. And there are places where tris won’t work well, for example: the eyes of a character produce an odd specularity in the center if they are made out of tris.

Thanks for your answer!

Zlack

Subdivision surfaces work better on Blender (and in other apps) using quads.
Blender has the “Alt J” comand for converting triangles to quads (in edit mode).

Thank you. I really enjoyed understanding this post. I couldn’t figure out the technical reason for tris/quads until now.

Is there a good place to learn about this type of stuff. I’m sure it will help the aspiring modeler/animators in all of us.

Thanks again,

Harnak
