Question about 2.46 interface

I downloaded 2.46, but ended up going back to 2.45 because the way objects are created confused me. im not sure if this question has already been asked, but is there a way to make it so, like in 2.45, when you create a mesh, it is created in the direction you are facing instead of always facing up?
