I was wondering:
If I were to get one of the BBB files, like “trees.blend” and I append one of those to my scene, would I need to attribute it?
On the BBB site it talks about licensing for the movie, but do the files inherit that license?
License information
The results of the Peach open movie project has been licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license. This includes all the data we’ve published online and on the DVDs, and all of the contents on this website. If any content on this site is not licensed as such, it will be clearly indicated.
In short, this means you can freely reuse and distribute this content, also commercially, for as long you provide a proper attribution.
The attribution is:
a) If you redistribute or screen or broadcast the movie itself: include the entire credits scroll.
b) In all other cases, attribute it as:

I already read about the license on the BBB website, and I did read the CC license, I was just wondering if I render their files, then how is the license changed? You didn’t really answer my question, but thanks for posting those links

Yes. Somewhere, you would need to add the attribution if part or all of their scene is now in your rendered scene and you want to distribute it.

With “CC-by” No. you could retain FULL copyrights. That is my understanding. However, even if you were to use a scene of a CC-by licensed file in your 200 million dollar block buster movie, at the end, you would still have to attribute the original author of the incorporated work. However it could be copyright to you, with Full rights Reserved.
Again, please let me know if that does not answer the question.

so if I take a tree from trees.blend and put it in my own scene like I’ve done here:
then I need to attribute that image as
“© copyright Blender Foundation | www.bigbuckbunny.org”?
i suppose that sounds right to me

so don’t take my word for it.
You just have to attribute the bit that you used… So you don’t have to put that below your image like that as if the entire thing were copyrighted by the blender foundation.
Just say something like: Tree model taken from Big Buck Bunny www.bigbuckbunny.org
Though I’m not very well versed on the subject either 
how about “Tree model taken from Big Buck Bunny © copyright Blender Foundation | www.bigbuckbunny.org”
Perhaps I would be better just making my own tree…
