Question about Cycles

I recently heard that Blender has now stopped working on the Blender internal renderer and focusing on Cycles. I felt that switching to Cycles would be more beneficial in the long run. However, I have heard from a friend that Cycles can only render with Nvidia or ATI graphics cards. Is it possible to render with an Intel i3 with Intel HD Graphics?
Sorry if this is a really bad question but i’m really ignorant when it comes to Cycles.

I believe Blender internal has not been under active development for a while (if what I hear is correct). Blender internal still works though and should for a good while to come.

Cycles will still render fine on the CPU but will be quite slow (in my opinion too slow if you are doing an animation). For GPU based rendering you will need an Nvidia card with CUDA. AMD and Intel are not supported and are unlikely to ever be. The current fastest GPU for rendering is the GTX 580. The 6xx series performs about 15% slower but has more VRAM available (up to 4GB). The VRAM is very important to GPU rendering as your entire scene has to fit within it.

Hope that helps,
Jon

it is not worth it, the best intel gpu is as good as my old drr2 8600gt, which is half the power of my i5 2500.
