Question about number of objects in a blend.

I have a blend with 22,000 “cube” objects, or at least this is what is reported at the top of the screen, by object name. But when I render, just below the top is a new readout which counts down all these same cube objects by name, labeled “Synchronizing object” – but starts at 42,000 – not 22,000. What is actually happening here?

Thanks for any insight.

In the outliner what are the object names ? The top indicator just tells you how many objects so doesn’t have any relationship to their actual names

Thanks for your response.

The object names in the outliner are the same name that is used in both the top of the screen, and just below that when rendering. This is NOT a “stock” mesh name, but one I created. So then there are 22,000 objects in the scene (using my object name), but why does the render count down from 44,000 using the same name?

It can’t be counting down faces or triangles. Faces is about 6 times the number of (cube) objects (132K), and tris are about 2x faces (264K). The number that’s being counted down is twice the number of objects. I can live without an answer, but it would be nice to understand what’s going on, if anyone knows.
