Question About Shape Keys

Hey~

Are there any guidelines for editing meshes that have shape keys without screwing up the shape keys?

I find that sometimes I can edit them just fine, even adding/removing vertices and faces - then other times, doing anything at all just makes the shape keys go haywire. x_x

Really confused about this, please halp!

it will be up soon.

Wow, thank you <3

So yeah, I guess it’s just random whether or not it’ll work and therefor is not a good idea. :frowning:

Reason I ask is I want to make a whole bunch of duplicate characters from one base mesh then edit each mesh from there to make them unique, and want to use shape keys for muscle deformation, facial animation and such. I was hoping I could save time and energy by adding the shape keys to the parts of the mesh that will remain the same throughout before duplicating the mesh, rather than having to go and add identical shape keys to each individual character after they are finished.

each individual character?

you finnish your character, then add one shape key for every deformation. such as Left Arm Muscle, Right Arm Muscle, Upper_Lip, Lower_Lip, Left_eyebrow etc.

Yes I know, but I will be making multiple characters from the same base mesh (at least 12) and will have to add those shape keys individually to each one. I was hoping to avoid this by adding the shape keys first before duplicating and editing the meshes for each character.
