Question about the wiki book

Hi,

Im realy new to blender and I found the wiki book. So I start to read it and learnd allot about blender. But when I came to the chapter advanced mesh modeling I couldn’t go further becouse of one small problem I had to fix.

As you can see on this picture the edges are bolted and not straight. Im only capeble of producing straight edges. So my question is how I can make bold lines with as many vertices on the picture?

Thanks alot for your time
Patjo

The Manual/PartII/Advanced_Mesh_Modelling page is unfortunately missing a link or reference to the Subsurf Modifier and Subsurfaces in general.

Werner

Edit:
If the link Hoehrer provided is the same page then I think it’s a little poorly written - but it is advanced so I guess it assumes a certain level of knowledge before you start. As Hoehrer suggests, what’s happened is some vertices have been deleted and others added -either sudivide (WKEY) or Extrude/CTRL-LMB - then the thing has been subsurfed to make it rounded.

Also, despite what it says at the top, that is an old tutorial :frowning: We don’t model halves using Alt-D any more, we now use a mirror modifier. The old method will still work but it’s far more painful than the new way.

They where talking about a plane that could get that shape or I got it wrong  Here is the link so you can read it if you want.

Thanks for your time and I hope you know the solution

Sorry Patjo, I thought I’d already edited my original reply but I mustn’t have pressed “save”. Look above for a more sensible reply.

Now I see what the problem is I did put subsurf on but the button to show it in edit mode was off. Thats the problem. Thanks for tips but im still looking for some good learning tutorials and maybe documents next to the wiki manual. Can you help me?

The ultimate newbie guide, in my opinion, is:

http://www.cdschools.org/54223045235521/blank/browse.asp?A=383&BMDRN=2000&BCOB=0&C=55205

This is a step-by-step PDF that introduces a variety of Blender tools and concepts. And it’s current (2.4+). In fact, I’ve pasted that link so much lately, I might just add it to my sig

Ive allready read that book and it was indeed a verry good guidline voor new people I learned alot and it helps you with the big manual.
