question: what's the hotkey to move along normal

i’m not talking about ALT+SPACE. that thing brings up the manipulator (which i find irritating btw). GKEY XKEY XKEY constrains movement to local x axis right? i was just wishing there was an equivalent for the normal axis.

alt S

well, it shrinks/flattens. not my idea of translation/rotation conrstrained along normal. so there really is no hotkey for that then…

damn… am i the only hotkey-loving, speed-modeling, blender user left?!?

Don’t really know why this haven’t been fixed in Blender yet. I thought the transform refactoring would make it possible, and it is, but only with the widgets. But - patience is a virtue when it comes to Blender. %|

you could attach hooks to the faces you wished to move along the normal, and ‘scale’ the hooks with shift p, but that’s not exaxtly a hotkey.

I know you mentioned the manipulator already, but the solution IS there.

The manipulator can be changed to work in ‘normal mode’. Its one of the options it has. In normal mode all movements, scales, etc, are relative to the normal. That’s what its for. Perhaps there’s a hotkey to toggle that mode on and off.

i know that, and as far as i know there isn’t, and, well, its just my opinion, but, that’s kinda cumbersome for me
