Quick question -- Am I understanding this correctly?

I’m a noob, still walking through courses that use 2.7, and just now getting to know 2.8.

…That being said – am I understanding this right?

Cycles is for “photo-realistic” rendering…

Eevee is for “real time” rendering, and quick rendering…

Workbench is sort of “Eevee lite” – for real time rendering & quick rendering, with less of a burden on your computer’s resources…

Is that basically accurate?

Both Cycles and Eevee can be used for either photo-real or stylised looks. Cycles is just a classic render engine, while Eevee’s realtime (and therefore using more tricks to speed things up).
Cycles does raytracing (worth googling), but note that realtime rendering is also starting to incorporate simplified raytracing for reflections, shadows etc, so there’s a chance Eevee will have access to that at some point.

Workbench is meant for quick, less intense rendering, yes.
