Quicker way to rename bones?

I always find renaming bones more time consuming than I should be, I would love the workflow to be;

select bone
press a hotkey
type in bone name
press enter

has anyone got any ideas how to make this happen?
I can’t script and thought maybe this would be a good first try, but cant find any examples of pop up dialogue boxes to type the bone name into.

There is a “Flip Names” option after you mirror bones from say left to right that will instantly name all the mirrored bones as opposites if the original was properly named. This wonderful tutorial explains it well on “Step 30.”

This isn’t exactly what you asked for but I thought it worth mentioning if you didn’t know about it.
