Rabbitman

Hi. I recently played Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s trap, and felt impressed by its beautiful art, created by the company Lizarcube. Then I decided to make an original character inspired by the game’s main character. And that is how Rabbitman was born.

These are my sketches and concept art:

This is the final 3D model, made in Blender, presented with and without wireframe. Its texture is a single 64x64 px image (scaled 4x in the image below to make it more visible).

I rigged using the Rigify addon, adding a few extra samples for the armor and the weapons.

I made the following 8 animations: Idle, Walk, Jump (full jump, and also divided into start, idle and landing), Attack and Damage. They can be seen at the beginning of the video at the top of this post.

In order to test my animations in game, I made a small demo in Redot engine. I implemented a simple Animation Tree:

And also made a simple stage:

I tried to use a shader for outlines, but it didn’t work as I expected. I am inexperienced in shaders, so I left it as it was. The shader was this one: https://godotshaders.com/shader/pixel-perfect-outline-shader/

This is what the final demo looks like:

Finally, I 3d printed the Rabbitman’s sword, because… because, why not?

And that’s it, thanks for reading!
