The first of two images I made for an entrance exam to a CGI education in a university in my area (pls wish me good luck!).
Water, bark, sail and larva rendered in cycles. I first tried modelling the bark by hand, but when I went out looking for textures I found this beautiful piece some birds had picked off from a birch. Took it home, recreated it as a 3d model using Meshroom (very recomanded btw) and ta-da!
(I only wish I hadn’t used particles to make that splash of water. Should have been a fluid simulation. I’m just too stubborn to go back and correct it)
