Radeon vs Geforce on Linux

Hi guys. I am building a new pc with dual boot (Linux and Windows), but I don’t know which card purchase for Blender. I know Radeon cards have a good OpenGL performance but I don’t know if they have good drivers for Linux. Do you know something about it?

Blender dosnt really support OpenGL yet (dunno if thats ever gonna happen), so you should go for an Nvidia card.

I think you’re confusing OpenGL with OpenCL… Blender’s whole interface is OpenGL, so indeed a Radeon card might have slight advantages in terms of viewport performance, but on the other hand you lose the possibilities of GPU rendering.

If you want to render on your graphics card, there is no way around nVidia.

I am not very interested in gpu rendering because the gpus make too heat and noise in pc, specially high end cards. Then with the new pc I will have two eight-threaded cpu and they are ok for preview render and for 720p animations.

Yes, my bad :o
