ragdoll armatures

Is there a way in blender to set the armatures to react with the physics engine to give a character ragdoll physics so that i can make him turn into a ragdoll when confronted with a collision or something?

Comments and advise are welcome please post some type of instruction im a bit slow =)

You could make an armature for each bone and then just put constraints on them for the joints.

which constraints should I add?

using the 2.43 builds, there is a “rigid body” constraint- just use that. However, as far as i know, you cna’t have them effect indifidual bones- it must be an entire object, thus all the ragdolls made out of many cubes. The suggestion to break the armature into seperate objects won’t work, because a mesh can only have one parent.

ok thanks i’ll try that and if i have any problems will just make a new thread.

dont bother … im pretty sure ive tried almost any possible way of doing this

  • that idea wouldnt work because if you were planning on animating the bones then that requieres extreme coordination… and then theres always the single parent only problem
-then again a single parent might be good for keeping order and avoiding loops…(dont mind my rambling)
-anyway if you do find some way of simulating this then be sure to share with the community!
