Randomising textures/materials in Blender 2.55?

Basically I need to know if there is a way to randomise the textures and materials in Blender 2.55 so that if I assign one material to one object and the same material to another object the two look different.
I know that by messing around with the mapping offset I can get the texture to appear different, however I can’t seem to find any way that I can have that set differently for different objects at the same time or any other function that will provide the same function.

Thank-you in advance for any help that can be offered.

Attached .blend to show the repetitiveness of a single texture in my situation.

UV mapping and some subsequent projection painting may be your good friend in this case. Excellent tutorial on how to do it here: http://www.blendercookie.com/2009/06/22/creating-a-wooden-barrel/

This is an interesting idea, however the link seems to be asking me for money. Is there a free tutorial or will I just have to figure this out the long way?

You only have to pay for the super-hi-res video and/or the source files. You can watch the actual tutorial, at a decent resolution, without paying.

Ah. I had flash disabled on my browser. It seems like this method should work, although I’ve designed my scene with many objects instead of arrays…

Thank-you for this suggestion.
