Randomizing verticies

If you wanted to make like a canyon, how would you make it so all the verticies are random?
Also, if you wanted to make like a bunch of rocks or trees, how would you randomize them so there not all alike?


I suppose you could use the fractal. adds a lot of verts though.

noise texture mapped to displacement would do it randomly.

it seems like there is a new feature along these lines, but my mind is foggy on this. there are a number of ways to make things look more uneven though, such as fractal subdivide, displacement maps, select>random>altS, and if you want to change the numerical order of vertices randomly press the ‘hash’ button.
