Raspberry Soda (Cycles)

YESSSSS, WE GOT GLASS…

Everybody does Cycles and so do i.

I decided to render my favorite drink in cycles, 'cause: “Don’t drink and drive”.

You take a glass,
fill it with ice cubes,
add 2 cl of your favorite raspberry syrup,
fill the rest with carbonated water.
(for the sunset / color blend effect you must fill in the water first and then slowly the syrup)
At last add a squeeze of lemon juice.

To decorete it stick two or tree raspberrys on a toothpick,
put a lemon slice on the glass and maybe a few mint leafes.

Cheers!

Rendered in cycles with 500 passes, postpro in Gimp.

C&C are welcome and sorry for my english.

Basically, there’s little to critque about this image. The drink and the bottles look great, the three rasberries on the the table are very realistic. It’s always hard to make an organic object really look organic and you did a very good job (the lemon looks good, too, but maybe a bit plastic like, the same holds for the leaves).
However, the image as a whole is somewhat boring. I don’t know how to explain it, there’s no Wow-effect, at least not to me. An important factor is certainly the grey wall in the background.

Incredible render! WOW!

Lovely render! I love the raspberries especially!

The raspberries look delicious! Could we see your node setup for their material?

Thank you very much for your criticism.

I agree with Skydiver, but i ran out of ideas.
The mint leafes were a pain in the neck for me and then i became lazy.
Any suggestion about the background?

Here are my nodes for the raspberrys.
It was mostly try and error.

Very nice work! But only 500 samples and the glass is not grainy. How’s that possible?
Would you render a close up of the raspberrys and the lower part of your drink, in one picture for us?

Well, as i said, postprocessing in Gimp:
original Image 1920/1080 resized to 1024 width, wavelet denoise, gaussian blur on the bottles (the DoF was very grainy) and a bit of handwork on the glass. But i was wondering by myself that there was so few grain.

As for the close up, i’m preparing a studio setup for the scene and then i add some close ups too. Maybe tomorrow.

This time without the plastic lemmon and the plastic mint leafes

That is totally epic!

Nice, there it is, the closeup!
I remembered the nice material setup and came back to have a look and save the node setup. Thanks!

Ahm and, happy new year!

Great job JoHal: the second image with ‘studio setup’ get rid of the little ‘boredom’ factor Skydiver mentioned.
Bravo!

Very very nice! This glass and raspberries are legendary good.
Thanks for the raspberries nodes. I tried something similar for a marble like sculpt. It didn’t work as expected.
I’m testing the experimental volume shader now, not much success either. Not there! No sss like, quality sss I mean, not the BI one.
I have the feel that some cycles shaders work better under environment lighting only.
Excellent work. bravo!

BTW I don’t drive. My wife does. :eyebrowlift:

awesome. can you please explain how did you got that gradient drink with cool ice in that glass? Great work.

That second render is beautiful.
I would have liked to have seen a hint of caustics in the shadow of the glass but that’s just me being picky. The amount of light you’re using in the scene probably wouldn’t trigger caustics in real life anyway.

Wow, the materials looks great- I could have a glass of that right about now! But I agree with skydiver, somethings missing. Something important.

I was to propose (when I read above that you run out of ideas for a less boring render) this for a better render:
Vertical image with the fruit and the glass just as they are in your second render. Then behind a photo with your two hands on the table and behind the bottle just where it is. It would be great see such integration of a real photo and such a incredible glass.
And I want the lemon and the mint leaves baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack !!! (with a little translucency on the leaves)
