In the above image I would like to direct the central rays emerging from the star straight up and down instead of the angle it is in and the “lines” button doesn’t seem to have a control to allow for such adjustments. Is there a way around this? I’ve tried ROT without success.
Use ‘Seed’. It’s a random function so just keep clicking till you get it.

I think the randomness is calculated NOT to accomplish what I hope. The star button is the closest thing to it but the rays of star are not sharp enough for me.

Hmm interesting. I played around with this to see if I could come up with a solution but with no success. I even tried making lines with 2 vertices and extruding for thickness but wasn’t satisfied with the results. It depends on what you want to use this for. One solution would be to create what you want in a paint program like gimp or photoshop then use the image as a texture or a background. Sorry.

I suppose you could just rotate this texture with a paint program and use that for the halo’s texture, multiplying alpha of course. Slightly easier than making the texture with another program.
Shame blender doesn’t have rotatable, 3D halos though.
I hadn’t even considered using mapping because I am hoping to animate some of the characteristics of the stars light.
I will do some experimenting with texture rotation but I doubt it will give that realistic “telescopic star ray” appearance.

hehe Now that you mention it. That might not be a bad spin off from my project
wonder if the coders would be open to a suggestion of adding adjustible halo and star characteristics? I hate being a pain in the butt when I know they are super busy

I’ve made some really neat stars with the Gimp and the GFLARE plugin is exactly what I used to do it. It is totally customizable with options to save the settings. It integrates with the gradient plugin for further custimization. Really nice system. The path is:
