Ray transparency render artifacts

When rendering an image with ray transparency, I keep getting these weird blocky artifacts; its not flipped normals, funky materials or an intersecting mesh, I have no idea what’s happening!

the big problem is that I need these images rendered for monday to pass my higher art! :frowning:
If anyone has any idea how to fix this it would be greatly appreciated, I think I might just have to render out parts of the image and stick it all together in gimp afterwards (it only seems to happen with large images, this one was rendered at 1800xblah.

thanks

It looks like it is not rendering all the layers. Could be a memory issue. You said it renders fine at smaller resolutions. If that is the case, you can use the following script to break the large render into sections that you can paste together in gimp. see:

hmmm… the artifacts only appear with ambient occlusion on ?!
previously they had not appeared on smaller renders, but now they seem to. I’ll try compositing an ambient occlusion render with no other effects, and a render with all the transparency etc. without ambient occlusion and see if that gives an ok result.

It’s really strange though…maybe its a bug?
