Re-birth of tuhopuu -- splash needed

EDIT: Deadline Sunday August 24, 2003

Hi gang,

Next Sunday the tuhopuu tree as we know it will be put to rest, and
will be re-forked from current bf-blender sources. We feel taking
this corrective action will help ensure better compatibility between
the two trees. The author’s of the various tuhopuu features will
be responsible for patching any features they want to keep
onto the new tree. As a bonus, tuhopuu will have the latest bf-blender
features, such as English source code comments, the new python API,
and sequence editor sound support.

Starting fresh, we think it would be cool to have a new splash
for tuhopuu2. We dearly love the old splash, an absolute
masterpiece which was designed by Lyubomir Kovachev,
and we would hope to get something that is of similar quality:

(‘tuhopuu’ which seems like a less harsh sounding name than our
old name ‘The Evil Tree’, means ‘Tree of Destruction’ in Finnish)

Anyways, if you are interested in trying a design for the new
tuhopuu tree, please feel free to post designs here, or e-mail
them to our developers mailing list:

[email protected]

The 500x270 pixel size is a good guideline.

The developers will try to choose a splash in the upcoming weeks.

Cheers,
Chris

heh. maybe i’ll try my hand at it. don’t expect too much tho.

man this will rock da blender house ^_^… not to think of a cool concept of “The Evil Tree”…

should i send it to the email address too?

WOAH! Nice!

Martin

Can we have a vote here on elysiun once we get enough entries? That would be great, but if no one else tries then NateTG’s is f****** brilliant.

Woah Nate! it’s breathtaking!

Dani

NateTG: absolutely awesome!
maybe you could make the tree a bit more menacing… but it’s cool as it is…
TUHOPUU!!! Yay!
.andy

i’ll work on it a bit more when i get home from work

Sure (although if you are going to work
on it more I’d do that first and send a
final one).

It’s very nice … I think I agree with @ndy about
the menacing, but it has a very stylish appeal.

Hope to see more stuff!

Thanks,
Chris

My skills at making trees look menacing leave a lot of room for improvement %|

i have about a million other lighting options, but i like this one… i think. The worst part of graphic design is having to choose between a few good ones.

hopefully its menacing enough for y’all

Wow, totally :<

I like the lighting aswell, makes it unique and different from the other one.

After reading the first post, I started blender to :o … well, forget it. :expressionless:
But what is evil or destructive about Tuhopuu? And are there some connections to finland in any way?

What about calling it 2hopuu? Just an idea?

nico: as Hos said

(‘tuhopuu’ which seems like a less harsh sounding name than our old name ‘The Evil Tree’, means ‘Tree of Destruction’ in Finnish)

Yes, and that´s what I don´t understand. Why ‘Evil’, why ‘Destruction’, why finnish? %|

The author == desaster == wierd finnish sauna-guy

hah, but sauna isnot weird at all.
it’s the trees that are weird.

looks like, that I can’t produce anything decent anymore. I spent hours on trying to make that look like something, but I’m very tired now, very frustrated, and in desperate need of sauna and beer…
I’ll try to continue tomorrow…

aah… sometimes… youknow… it just doesn’t… “flow”…

ok, here comes my sucky one:

too bad nate kicked us out of competition :frowning:

cya henrik

Actually, I really dig the idea … my main criticism would be to
bring out the color of the word ‘Tuhopuu’ more.
An excellent effort! Take a sauna then get back to it!

Nonsense! Get back to work! … I liked the more ‘tree-like’ colors
of the earlier preview you showed me on Sunday (too much blue and
red now).

Chris

really? hmm… i might combine the 2 looks…
