Whoa, those are some really nice renders, great work! A question, do you find using an external tonemapper as a big advantage as opposed to stick with the built-in one? Is the result notably more realistic, or is the best advantage higher control of the final result? I feel inspired to extend my workflow in this area
Yes, I think an external tonemapper specially like photomatix gives a lot more posibilites and control over the image. The best tonemap method you can find on Indigo is the Camera Tonemap, but you only get presets of Camera Resonpose Curves and dont actually haveget the chance to change settings.
If more people are interested in external tonemapping process I can prepared some kind of tutorial…
Thanks for the comments guys ![]()
Nice room design. I like the idea of the comics on the wall. Apart from that, texturing is pretty much just usual. Well done but just usual. The biggest gripe I have, though, is the tone maping. For a room with mostly pale walls and sun shining on a white carpet like in that scene, the overall illumination is way way too dark and contrasty. The tone mapper you used failed in this case.
Thanks for the tonemap comment I will take it in consideration next time ![]()
Im sure I have a lot to learn on tonemaping and photographic composition
Tone mapping is a small step in the whole photorealistic image production workflow. There are several tome mapping operators too, some more suitable for certain kind of scenes than others. But tone mappers are not a fit-all solution and certainly not a patch that can fix rendering issues after the fact. If you want to take tone mapping into consideration next time, then I encourage you. If you want to learn on this subject, then look on google for “linear workflow” because you will need to prepare your scene taking tone mapping into consideration and this is what is called “linear workflow”.
I find myself seeing the room as a miniature because the shag on the carpeting in the full-room shot & others is much too large in relation to the rest of the contents of the room. If I cover it, everything looks more normal-sized.
