I am working on some models of animal figures, for use in 3D printing, so I only need to create the shape of the animal and not any of the colours and patterns on the surface. However, this gets me into some difficulty when it comes to sculpting fur, since I would need it to be a part of the physical model, rather than just a good realistic texture. Does anyone here know of a good and reasonably easy way of getting a fur like pattern over the surface of the model, without having to subdivide all the faces down really tiny and spend days creating it, one individual strand at a time?
just model in the basic contours, then use the sculpt brush to ‘rake’ the surface so it suggests fur. if for example you added particle hair, and converted it to a mesh, the 3D printer would not be able to handle the detail, and you would end up with a mess.
