Realistic head test

40 min on last one in lux (with sss and glossy reflections)!? look impressive, is there ready blender+lux 0.8 rc3 binary download?
What cpu you have anyway?
Render is ok espacially backscatter, but front scatter seems bit small - almost diffuse like.

Blender 2.57 in blender.org or graphicall.
Luxrender 0.8RC3 is just announced to download and test everyone.

AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4Ghz (quad core)

In post 149 just below the second little image there is the explanation, bad place to write probably more people lost it. In resumen: until luxrender 0.9 there will not be the ability of have more than one SSS effect. A normal shader for skin has at least three SSS effects, so at the moment the SSS effect was in the ears and the rest of the skin is without SSS effect. We must wait some months, first 0.8final will be out and then in 0.9 will be implemented the ability to mix SSS effects.

Great thread and great tests guys! here is one from me.

I downloaded mesh and textures this morning and this is first quick render I done, hopefully I should be able to do more better renders tomorrow.
I used 3 layer sss and 2 layer specular like always, lighting was very simple, I used one area light and hdri map to fill some dark areas and make shadow look more natural.

Whoa, how did I miss this. Way cool!

Great first try maqs.
I find excesive the bump mapping for my taste. The skin seems a little too much SSS and finally (because the excesive SSS probably) the skin lacks color, is too uniform in color.
I like very much your render is not “flat” like my last blender render is (comparing to my luxrender image side by side the blender render seems 2D). I love side by side comparisons (opening the two images and putting one side the other in gimp or so), I usually love a image and when I do a side by side comparison I find it sucks! Is incredible how the eye tricks us and side by side comparisons not.

Awesome mate!

I actually like Maqs test the most. Seems that 3 layered skin is better form one layer sss after all.

Well, second try in luxrender. Time to move to the eyes and hair again; and I hope this time the eyes will work as I want.

awesome, i hope that with cycles soon have more sss shaders options, please when can try with the eyes open.

@Bao2

My 12yo walked into the room and said ‘wôw’ in a very non-flattering matter, hehe… And I agree with him, it’s actually a bit creepy using this file with the Cycles viewport rendering, it’s just a tad to lifelike, hehe… ;D

@Bao2
I’m impressed!

WOw @Bao2, you make me believe this can be used for acceptable skin shaders, well done man. Gonna try your .blend later

This guy was in need of a day on the Beach
The skin material is the same, only changed the glossiness a little.
The lighting is with a hdr and one mesh light as the sun.

Very cool Bao2… Makes me think of the insanity of this, how ordinary people is animated in feature films due to directorial reasons - in Red Tails as it was simpler animating the flyers in the cockpit, where they are looking in relation to the other objects in the scenes - and this render shows that you technically could pull that off in Blender too now… Pretty damn cool. :smiley:

Mango team needs to scan Ton head and do something like in that Red Tails movie.:stuck_out_tongue:

Oh, I haven’t played with Autodesk 123D as yet but I gotta do that, hehe, use the DSLR & scan my own head… ;D

It will probably be the least downloaded model from blendswap of all time, my head… :smiley:

Of course 64MB download
And as bonus a movie: click on the facebook link, then scroll to the post of March 20 to go to the ruin short. Enjoy!

Hi guys. Here is my result with cycles.

Cheers!

Cool work !

Can somebody reupload Bao’s files ?

thanks in advance !

Now with Cycles strand rendering working, I’d just love for people to start giving this guy hair. :smiley:

(or why not make a competition around it, hehe)
