Realistic Male Head

Hi all
Working on a blending life entry here. I wont put that in the title in this thread as I’m not 100% that I’ll stick with this permanently, but anyway, here’s today’s work. I’m looking for input on any improvements to topology and form at the moment - be brutal and thanks for your crits and comments in advance!
Reference photos are of this guy.

The head sillouette matches the hair silloutte a bit too well. Remember that the head is smaller than the hair buy a surprising amount considering this guys hair is relativly long…

Also the whole thing is leaning forwards a fraction too much in its shape, it looks like the whole thing neads shearing slightly to make it look more upright.

The crease beside the nose could be a bit mreo pronounced, same for the hollow at the bottom of the cheek.

Your eyebrows bonestructure is bothering me slightly, i think they are accurate to the photo’s but you may wish to alter them depending on the final camera angle you use, for styalistic realism.

Excellent model so far!

Added some definition to the cheekbones and played with the nose a little there. As you say ANIMAL, the facial angle is quite forward leaning, but it matches up with the reference, and tilting it back just makes it look weird, so I’m happy to leave that as it is. moving on to some textureing now, here’s some very early results:

thats looking very well done man:eek::yes:… Do you have any tutorials i can refer to?, did you use this by anychance

Tutorials wise I didn’t use any for this. The best I’ve come across in the past is this one. The curves technique really helps. Hope that useful.

Use some reference for the back of his head.

perfect, cheers bro:eyebrowlift:.

Hoping the final compo will look something like this, but less painterly:

That hair is awesome, haha  Does that dude in the painting have a lazy eye, or just me?

Fix that lazy eye.

and explain to me how you make hair.

The eyes do need fixing, I think the irises are too small as well.
Making the hair was just a matter of setting up the particle system, adding vertex groups for weight and length, then LOTS of pushing and pulling in particle mode I’m afraid - it took me the best part of half a day. Heres the material settings:

Texures are a blend texture set to control the alpha apped to strand to make the hair more whispy toward the ends, and a cloud texture set to normal to mess up the specular highlights so that they dont all fall in the same places.

Ha, you should keep that eye!

Great job! Hair looks great. Skin looks a bit too… even? Or something.

Have you considered joining the BLENDING LIFE challenge?

Nice work, and beautilful hair.

@La Sphere: Yup, I just wasn’t sure I was going to stick with this model when I started the thread. I’m definitely entering it now though, I should probably start a WIP thread really.

Anyway, made a jacket.

I’m having some issues with proportions at the moment, I really cant seem to get them nailed down. On the plus side he has hands now.
