Realistic Ocean Material

Does anyone know how to make a realistic ocean texture???

An easy way is to use procedural cloud texture with “hard noise” enabled and “noise depth” set to five or six. Play around with the colorband option to change the contrast and appearance of the texture, and optionally, layer one or two more textures with different scaling on top of the first one. Then use these textures as bump or displacement maps.

This tutorial uses a similar method, though it’s pretty old. It’s the fourth tutorial down on this page:

It shows how to make a churning, wavy ocean effect(and it shows how to animate it, too!).

I changed my mind about something I posted before. Using a noise depth of five or six is not always a good idea. Depending on the type of waves you want to make, a lower value may be better. It’s always good to experiment.
