Hey, I’ve recently been wanting to make a couple renders that include human models so I started working on a skin shader for it. I was hoping to get some critique on how I could make it more realistic.
Model made in Daz, Compositing in Gimp and everything else was done in Blender. Rendered at 250 samples with cpu
(my GTX 750ti was causing problems with the reflections for some reason so I switched to CPU for this project.). I’ll bump up the samples to 500 for the next few renders since this one was a little noisy.
It looks very good, but the roughness makes it seem more like a hand carved in stone than a real hand. Looking this closely at my own hand, I don’t see any roughness, but instead I see many crease lines, and under those I see the whorls of the palm and finger prints themselves.

I noticed that the correct roughness setting is one of the most important setting, together with the colors (albedo texture, radius SSS) and scale of SSS. These are my settings:
Scale SSS: 0.1 and 0.2 (2 layers mixed where 0.2 is mixed for 0.2 untill 0.4. Colors for their radius respectively: C79585 and AD6F7B
Rougness glossy: 0.125, but there is a bumpmap as well : voronoi (inverted, scale x 1000). For the SSS efect, look at the nose
Using PBR reflections[ATTACH=CONFIG]479674[/ATTACH].
Well all depends, but I think above guidelines are something to start with.

Definitely something i couldn’t do so fantastic but it looks like a corpse. Also something that’s really small and not a big deal but that little bump or hole on the fat part of the thumb (I don’t know what its called honestly) really draws my eye to it although i understand if its a scar or a mark of some kind.
It really does look like a corpse, I couldn’t figure out how to increase the glossiness. I think i’ll have to rework the material cause my current layout doesn’t work with it.

Just increased the samples and tweaked the SSS (might make it a bit stronger though, or increase radius.
