Realtime City Projekt-Likely for Game*UPDATEII* New Areas, Textures, and controls..

I know its been done before, but i wanted to create a fairly realistic city, which Ill probably be using for a game in the future. Its nothing special right now, but all C&C is welcome…

Ill post the .blend when I make some more progress.
Again, All C&C welcome, thanks for looking…

Keep updating.

I see a nice seed which could grow out into a beautiful flower. Maybe the building texture is too repetitive. Try to mask the tiling with some layers of dirt and irregularity.
As for the realism, in my opinion the lamppost and the building are not detailed enough. Seeing as you’re going to use it for a Blender Game, I can understand you try to keep the poly count down. Do you remember the Burly Brawl scene? I liked it very much. Maybe you can draw ideas from it?

@anticator: I will…
@charlesworth: Hey man, thanks for lookin. Im not sure how to make multiple layers of textures of UV(or I would), tho that was my original plan.
The game this will probably be for is a zombie slasher(with a hopefully good storyline), so I made lots of blood/ dirt/ wutever maps. If anyone knows if this is possible( I was under the impression that was for the next release) let me know.
Update soon…

Alright, heres a screenie, Ive made a fair amount of progress…

You may have to turn up the bright on your monitors…
But Im having aproblem, Blender keeps crashing when I start the game(No controls, just start it to see the effect of mist, etc). Heres the .blend (obviously, dont abuse it)

couldn’t find the problem interested if someone else does. Strange At first I thought it might too many lights in the scene deleted them but it still didn’t work.

Yeah, at one pont I did have too many lights(and it ran fine) but SOme didnt work…Is there anyway to overcome this? The max amount of allowed lights are in the .blend. Add another , and one goes out…

Well, I took a look at the file, and It looks great, and I didn’t see why it was crashing at first, but after playing around with it, I noticed that it ran without crashing when I deleted the building. Then after digging even further, I found that it ran without crashing when I removed all the collision faces on it.
So if I were you, I would just keep the collision off the faces on the building, and then created an invisible box around it with collision on.

I hope I helped.

hmmm, yeah that fixed it, thanks man…
never would have thought of that…
Heres another screenie, a little brigher, fixed the ground texture…

Alright, Heres an updated .blend, controls and physics, tho there are some wrinkles in the physics. All C&C welcome, thanks

AntiCator?
Let’s re-spell, AniCator;)

Comments about the project:
That’s a cool framerate! The environment may have some fixes the lamp poles are having that halo effect. I think those glarisch zigzags are a bit to rough.

heh, sorry, Anicator, yeah, the spotlights are a bit rough…the map didnt turn out quite as planned.
Could you explain what you meant by ‘lamp poles having halo effect’, Im not great wiht a lot of the GE jargon yet.
And yeah, Ive obviously only got a bit of the environment up yet. Im also having a bit of trouble with the camera, it rolls upside down, and the like.
Anyway, Ill have an update soon…
Still trying to get more lights in the scene…

Update! Lots of new stuff(ok, a bit of new stuff)…
Screenie(sorry if the size is too big…)
http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/19/screenie3le8.jpg
Alright, Ive created a new area, with some new textures such as:
fences, New building(Old one w/new textures), Grass, (trees to come)…
Theres another camera now, so select it and hit ctr-0 to make it the main cam, then p to play obviously. New control, a-key to go up(go over fences, curbs).
There are still some problems, but I figured out that I can have Up to 8 lights in each layer so each new area is a new area…

enjoy, all C&C welcome and wanted…
peace, thanks for looking…
Drew::cool:

Looking really cool! I’m also working on a downtown scene, not quite like that. More metropoliton.

Thanks man, Its(obviously) inspired by games like Silent Hill, and there will be another section, somewhat Half Life-ish. I used to have fun modeling small cities, then rendering them out…blah ;P. realtime is so much more fun…

you still need to whoop that building texture till it respects your authoritEYE. The bricks are getting bigger as you go up the building.

Maybe make the lampost texture more metel looking, it looks like a plant :stuck_out_tongue:
And the buildings texture needs work.
looking cool though bud, keep it up!

@braveheart: yeah, good point, gotta fix that :slight_smile:
@jessegp: yeah, Just noticed that too…!^&#&@’ textures…

the camera is too close to the ground, and starts to roll when I’m moving.
Put an empty on the ground and parent the camera to it or something, so it becomes higher up, then make the empty move.

Yeah, that is a problem, but when i parent to an empty, it tips over…
Anybody know hwo to fix this?(sorry, still fairly noob with the GE)
