realtime ocean

hi all

i know there’s no waves in the realtime engine but i’m trying to use triggers to vary the intensity of an ocean. i am not expecting this to be easy but thought i’d put out a call for suggestions.

i realise i could animate a mesh by hand and play different ipo loops but this may glitch between loops, when for example the intensity of the ocean is changed.

i also thought i could control different vertices on a plane with triggers - but can you make part of a plane stretch when triggered in the engine? I guess this would involve having a different actuator etc for each vertice.

also - is there smoothing in the game engine. i do like the game aesthetic but there are limits to how clunky i could have it

anyway, i hope someone has some innovative suggestions. i’m trying to make an interactive installation for a uni assignment and the dealine is close!

cheers

rene.

Maybe an animated texture? a combination of the marble texture on top of cloud texture might look a bit like foam floating on water. <shrug> Maybe making it into an animated bump map and cycling the specularity a bit.
